What is a first edition?
A First Edition’ is a copy of a book printed from the first setting of its type. It is the first public appearance of the book in that form. Additional changes to the printed text, with corrections of the original typesetting, produces different ‘states’ and ‘issues’.
How do I know if a book is a first edition?
Identifying a first edition is a very difficult aspect of collecting or purchasing a book. One of our verifications is to verify that the book is at least a first printing. A ‘number line’ on the copyright page often indicates this. The lowest number identifies the printing. Here at Peter Harrington, our experts have already verified if a book is in fact a first edition and this will be clearly identified on the main website product details area of the book.
How can I find more about the book's condition?
